ABOUT US

Why Red Dawn Academy?

I created this teaching academy for two reasons. The first and foremost, I enjoy teaching! Not for the sake of teaching alone but to impart my knowledge, such as it is , and experiences to others so that they may benefit from them. Learning about a topic strictly from a textbook can be dry but also hard to relate to. When confronted with a decision in solving a problem, experience tempers our knowledge. If you are just learning about something you have little to no experience in that subject matter and therefore have only one resource to pull from. I want to influnce that with real world reactions and outcomes from decisions, so that you will have more tools in your toolbox when you have to make the call.

The second part of why I established this acedemy, my experience with education and course work in the fire service was to put it boldy, a PITA! It seemed most classes were filled very quickly and offered predominantly in the Middle to Southern Ca. regions. Hazardous Materials Technician and Specialist in particular as well as many FSTEP classes, you know ICS-290 390 etc. In getting registered as a State Fire Training Instructor, again I ended up going down South for some of the classes. This more than doubled the cost of the course with travel expenses. Even if you are being sponsored by your department, often with smaller budgets, courses that involve significant travel and overnight stays can triple the cost. As an example, for my Hazardous Materials Specialist certification the cost of travel, hotel and meals alone was over $4600. In contemplating a course this year, only offered in San Diego, the cost of getting there and staying for the two days was more than the cost of the course itself. Simply put, Northen Califonia needs more local classes. I do understand there are other schools putting on classes however, contact me and we can do one right in oyur own backyard, Go to the Services page to learn more….
